Patreon versus Ko-fi
Ok, so what is Patreon and Ko-fi? As a new user to Patreon and Ko-fi, I decide to discover the sites and do a quick summary about them from a creator’s view. Both are web sites that help fund and market a creator's work.
1) Features
Patreon provides a range of choices such as text, images, video, livestream, audio, link and polls for a creator. Whereas, Ko-fi provides very simple per post image, audio, video and blog uploads.
2) Payment
A small percentage fund is taken from what you earn in Patreon, that is given from your patron/follower. A creator’s payout method is Payoneer. On the other hand, Ko-fi uses the idea of ‘buy me a coffee’ donation, which is direct from a supporter/follower without taking any percentage fund from you. Payout method is a Paypal business account.
3) Sign up
Both are free to sign up within minutes. For Patreon, creator's posts can be made public or patron view only. A creator can choose for their patron/follower to pay per post or by monthly, and of course, for a patron/follower, they can pay by card or Paypal to support. On the contrary, at Ko-fi, all posts are made public only by a creator, unless one upgrade to Gold by monthly or yearly payment. And once a Gold, a creator may make post exclusive to subscriber/follower. But any person can straight away pay through Paypal to support a post at Ko-fi.
4) Control
Patreon gives creator more control, an example would be the availability of tiers.
Both appear as somewhat balance in terms of their usages.
